The unprecedented financial crisis that ravaged hard the Greek society in recent years, is expected to have largely changed their habits and lifestyle, as well as the perceptions of the average citizen, the philosophy of the triptych "economy-society-environment", its priorities and objectives. It is interesting to investigate whether the response is indifference to the environment to the survival and personal interest, or if in converting the crisis into an "opportunity" he aims in the long term at achieving the mutual benefit for himself and society.

Based on a survey questionnaire with 1900 participants within the Greek territory (Attiki, Greece remaining mainland, Central Macedonia, Crete, Epirus, Northern Aegean) and beyond, the study attempts to capture and investigate the environmental and socio-economic causes and effects, or else the link between environmental and socio-economic parameters. It attempts in formulating a "special environmental barometer", given the current economic crisis, for the respective trends and emerging perspectives in Greece and internationally.

Target group of the questionnaire were average citizens, namely those with sufficient education level (at least secondary education) and age to reflect the required minimum experience of a lifetime, so as to be able to establish a reliable basis for the observed subject.

The study develops into two parts, theoretical and empirical, with General conclusions instead of epi-logue, with intent to obtain the correct structure in content and a better understanding in its consistent monitoring.

The first part was created based on indications from the literature review while the empirical research was carried out through the use of a questionnaire.

The 1st part (ch. 1-3) includes the conceptual content and theoretical approaches, as well as the histor-ical review on the topic of relationship "economy-society-environment" with reference to the interna-tional experience and focus on the specifics of the case of Greece.

The 2nd part (ch. 4-9) encompasses the empirical and research process, with the juxtaposition of the question-naire, the analysis of the questions with reference to objectives and goals that serves as the indicative collection of representative initial responses, statistical analysis and the associated conclusions, together with analytical answers and a review of key findings with a possible interpretation of the data, as well as the emergence of new trends.

The study is accompanied by an extensive use of visual material (graphs, tables, figures, etc.) and a large number of footnotes, which makes it more easily, understandable and interesting to monitor the study, but also reliable and sufficiently documented which accompanies the analysis of the questions through to the conclusions.

The study is intended and aims to be usable at interdisciplinary level, by scientific and research organizations, from politician to the public servant, but primarily by the average citizen, by encouraging them to conduct further research and simulating their involvement in seeking positive and effective actions in their relevant fields of interests.

The overall investigation, statistical data processing, analysis and decoding of responses as well as the provision of required or optional explanations, clarifications and examples, leads to the emergence of new dimensions and enrichment of the overall problem.
