ΑΣΠΡΟΜΑΥΡΕΣ ΜΝΗΜΕΣ

These few poems, assembled together in the collection titled: ‘Black and white Memories’, comprise a sensitive testimony of heart and soul of Panicos Byron.

It is an overflow de profundis of spontaneous feeling and memory in one, which takes form and is imprinted effortlessly, as it reaches the pages, which contain and give it shape.

Unpretentious and temperate verses, which recount with nostalgia an emotionally charged personal experience, a youthful love affair, which has left deep traces in the poet’s memory and thought, without excessive and unnecessary elaboration.

The persistent metre and a certain repetitive, often insistent rhyme, admit their direct descent from music. At times they bear more resemblance to song lyrics.

As he himself confirms in his introduction:

“In this setting my own generation was nurtured and in this same setting this little story, sung by the verses which follow, was enacted”.
